I think it's really quite clear if people are interested and pay attention. And if people aren't interested in the linguistic aspects of this book, they can skip over them - I don't mind. I've had people skip over parts of my books that have nothing to do with language. Some people don't like the love story plot line in The Termite Queen, e.g., but they love the termites.Lorinda J Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16985567506994751475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843833519373801339.post-53094224429034368242020-08-22T06:57:05.189-07:002020-08-22T06:57:05.189-07:00There are a lot of passages like this, but this is...There are a lot of passages like this, but this is one of the most technical. Anyone reading the blurb would immediately grasp that the story is more middle grade to adult level.
As a reader, I’d recommend you use the same cover everywhere, to avoid any confusion. 😎thestoryreadingapehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08459123766046053950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843833519373801339.post-35201204994194522322020-06-15T07:20:33.267-07:002020-06-15T07:20:33.267-07:00Thanks for reading and commenting, Chris! Thanks for reading and commenting, Chris!Lorinda J Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16985567506994751475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843833519373801339.post-73077388483433884572020-06-14T07:18:29.087-07:002020-06-14T07:18:29.087-07:00I grew up without a lot of masculine influence, so...I grew up without a lot of masculine influence, so at the age of 12 I doubt if I even knew what a superhero was, although I'm sure I'd heard of Superman. I also liked The Jungle Book, but I managed to miss The Wind in the Willows. I read it a few years ago and loved it! And I fear I don't know Algernon Blackwood at all. Maybe the fact you're also drawn to characters who need to atone is why you enjoy Robbin Nikalishin, who has to grow painfully into his role as Superhero. As for writing about adolescents, I found that your narrative of Herbert West's childhood and adolecence helped the reader to understand how he became what he was later.
Thanks for commenting!Lorinda J Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16985567506994751475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843833519373801339.post-60717811546601740922020-06-14T05:50:04.644-07:002020-06-14T05:50:04.644-07:00An author’s mind is an amalgam of real and imagine...An author’s mind is an amalgam of real and imagined worlds, wrapped up in one brain.thestoryreadingapehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08459123766046053950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843833519373801339.post-17632625495270436642020-06-13T21:27:56.676-07:002020-06-13T21:27:56.676-07:00So interesting, Lorinda! Two of my favourites as a child were Volume 1 of The Jungle Book and The Wind in the Willows. I also read a bunch of Edgar Allan Poe's stories, which I found fascinating and sort of horrible. And Algernon Blackwood's story "The Willows," which I still consider a masterpiece. It scared the pants off me at age 12! I guess I'm sort of drawn to characters who need to atone, specifically my version of Herbert West.
